April
2003 - Publisher's Note
Certainly
Spring!
With
so much uncertainty in our world today, one thing
is certain: Hilton Head Island is the place to be,
especially in spring! The island is abloom with color
and abuzz with activity, reminding those of us who
live here why we stay and beckoning those who visit
to stick around. And how weve grown! If you
dont believe it, check out our annual neighborhood
guide, starting on page 81. As spring arrives with
its usual fanfare, big changes are happening in our
world, our community and even here at the magazine.
On a national level, whether or not we agree with
the war effort, we must unite in support of our troops.
To find out how you can help, read our feature story,
beginning on page 56, and ponder one island authors
historic perspective on our Last Word page. On a local
level, a powerful example of unity has been our communitys
rally to support The Heritage of Golf.

Beginning on page 30, read about the uphill battle to secure
a sponsor and how the plans for this years tournament
have finally jelled. Meanwhile, the cooperative efforts of
our arts community are evidenced in the plans for this years
Bravo! Celebrate the Arts festival. Get a sneak preview in
our Arts and Entertainment Guide. Here at the magazine, we
welcome aboard Blanche L. Tomaszewski as our new editor. (If
you have trouble pronouncing her name, just call her BLT,
like the sandwich.) On March 14, our art director Audrey Clayton
delivered a baby girl (Mya Arie) to the world. We asked Mya
to wait until the April issue was finished, but with all the
exciting events happening this month, she couldnt wait
to get here! A special thanks to our dedicated team of professionals
who rallied to make this issue happen. Together as a nation
and as a community, we have proven that we can face the difficult
challenges and changes of our daily lives. For now, spring
has sprung, and youre certainly in the right place! |
