WILLIAMS AND MEREDITH ANNOUNCE PLANS FOR NEW COMMUNITY BANK
John A. Williams and Jack Meredith are the founding organizers of Heritage Community Bank, to be headquartered on Hilton Head Island. Williams, a veteran banker, is the founding organizer of two community banks in North Carolina and currently serves as chairman of First Carolina State Bank. Meredith is president and CEO of Meredith & Company, a Hilton Head based merger and acquisition investment banking firm.

PEEPLES RETURNS AS VP OF CUSTOMER
DEVELOPMENT
T.D. Peeples Construction recently celebrated its 25th anniversary with the addition of Joshua Peeples to the family business as vice president of customer development. Peeples returns to Hilton Head from Napa Valley, Ca., where he was director of operations for eVine.com.

Caron has over 10 years of real estate experience, is a member of the Hilton Head Area Association of Realtors and holds the National Association of Realtors e-Pro Internet Professional designation. Bryan Hughes has joined Sea Pines Real Estate Company as a sales executive at the
Daufuskie Island location. He is a graduate of Hilton Head Preparatory School and holds a bachelor’s degree from the
University of Georgia. Marcia Woodward-Hunter has joined Sea Pines Real Estate Company’s Rose Hill office. She has 15
years of real estate experience, working previously for Cutler GMAC Real Estate Company in Canton Ohio.

MELKON JOINS CHARTER 1
Betty Herlong Melkon has joined Charter 1 Realty & Marketing as a licensed Realtor. A longtime resident, she has 15 years experience in the financial services industry. Melkon was previously vice president for First Union Securities. Her background also includes managing the trust department of First Union National Bank and serving as a financial consultant with Robinson-Humphrey. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of South Carolina and a M.Ed. from Clemson University.

HOPE COTTAGE NAMES CARNAL PRESIDENT
Barbara Carnal is president of Hope Cottage of the Lowcountry, Inc., a four-county non profit organization formed by 2002 merger of the Rape Crisis Center and the Children’s Advocacy Center. Carnal was the former owner of The Patchwork Family, a counseling and consulting office on Hilton Head. She is licensed as a professional counselor in both North and South Carolina.

MAXWELL NEW AT BANKERS LIFE AND CASUALTY
Cynthia S. Maxwell has joined Bankers Life and Casualty as an insurance agent. She has 23 years of experience in retail banking, six as a branch manager.

SANCTUARY ADDS SANFORD, PROMOTES MEYERS
Christina Sanford has joined the team at the Sanctuary as an esthetician. She is a graduate of Charleston Esthetics School. Carol Meyers has been promoted to spa coordinator at The Sanctuary. She is responsible for group booking and events in addition to running the front desk.

KINGHORN ADDS FUGE

THORN JOINS WORLD DESIGN
Charlie Thorn has been named director of new business development for World Design Marketing of Hilton Head. Previously, he was an owner of Ocean’s Bounty Designs on Hilton Head. An advertising veteran, Thorn has handled accounts such as American Express, Hilton Hotels, Jamaica Tourist Board Delta Airlines, Coca Cola and IBM during his career in New York City with Forbes and Newsweek magazines. He holds a degree in journalism from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University.

DEERY NAMED COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR AT BROAD CREEK CARE CENTER
Freeda Deery, R.N. has been named community relations director for Broad Creek Care Center, located at TidePointe, A Classic Residence by Hyatt continuing care retirement community. Deery will coordinate outreach efforts for the new outpatient therapy center. She has more than 17 years of clinical nursing experience with a focus on medical and lay community education. Most recently, she served as community educator at Palmetto Health Hospice in Bluffton. Previously, she served as community educator with American Hospice in Bluffton and as director of professional services at Interim Health Care on Hilton Head.

LAXTON JOINS LIBERTY SAVINGS
Kiki Laxton has joined Liberty Savings Bank as a service representative at the Pope Avenue Financial Center. Most recently, she worked as assistant manager for a family -owned restaurant. She is a graduate of Hilton Head High School and holds a bachelor’s degree from Guilford College in Greensboro, N.C.

SHORB JOINS MORGAN STANLEY
Elizabeth J. “Libby” Shorb has joined Morgan Stanley as associate vice president and financial advisor, transferring to Hilton Head from Ocala FL. She has been with the company since 1995 and has been in the financial industry since 1988. She has a bachelor’s degree from Tennessee Temple University and has completed management training with Morgan Stanley.

HARDEN HOMES APPOINTS DIONNE
Dale Dionne has been appointed project manager/supervisor in the custom home division of Harden Homes. He has been supervising construction of custom homes in the Lowcountry since 1995. Previously, he was a licensed electrical contractor and a project manager in the aerospace industry. He is a graduate electrical engineer from Tufts University in Medford, Mass.

MURPHY IS NEW FACULTY MEMBER AT HALF-TIME UNIVERSITY

Bob Verhey, founder of Half-Time University, is pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Kathy Murphy to the faculty as a facilitator. Previously, Murphy was president of South Strand Counseling and Consulting Services in Murrell’s Inlet, S.C. She served as graduate professor for Webster University and the University of South Carolina and as an assistant professor for Coastal Carolina University. She also served as an instructor for the Continuing Education Institute. Murphy holds a master’s degree in applied psychology. She earned her doctorate in counselor education from the University of South Carolina.

EVERGREEN REAL ESTATE ADDS PHARES AND MCCLUSKY
Barbara Phares and Dianne McClusky have joined Evergreen Real Estate Company as sales associates. Prior to her real estate career, Phares served as membership services director for the Club corporation of America’s Golden Bear Club and The Golf Club at Indigo Run. McClusky owned and operated a custom manufacturing business with her husband. She earned her ABR (Accredited Buyer Representative) designation several years ago. Both were associated previously with Coldwell Banker Hilton Head Properties.

Pamela Carter has joined Coldwell Banker Hilton Head Properties as sales manager, working out of the Sun City office. She is a specialist in residential real estate and has been affiliated with Coldwell Banker West Shell in Cincinnati for over seven years. She is a graduate of National Louis University. Coldwell Banker Greater Savannah Realty recently opened a second office in Bluffton across from the Colleton River.

AWARDS AND CONFERENCES
The Hilton Head Regional Medical Center’s Main Street laboratory has been awarded an accreditation by the Commission on Laboratory Accreditation of the College of American Pathologists (CAP), based on a recent on-site inspection. CAP identified the laboratory at Hilton Head Regional Medical Center a best performer in their Q-TRACKS program. QTRACKS monitors provide objective benchmarks against which laboratories can measure performance, determine areas that require improvement and implement change. Morris & Whiteside Galleries of Hilton Head sold 135 pieces of art during its eighteenth annual American Art Classic in Houston, Texas on Feb. 12. The previous high was 113 pieces. Group 3 architects of Hilton Head recently earned a “Best One-of-a-Kind Custom Home” award for a private residence on Daufuskie Island. The 19th annual Best in American Living Awards (BALA) were presented in January in conjunction with the 59th annual International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas. The Town of Hilton Head was recently selected as a co-winner (along with the City of Rock Hill) of the SC Department of Disabilities and Special Needs’ 2003 Silver Palmetto Award. The award is presented annually to the city government that has demonstrated exemplary support of citizens with disabilities. Robert A. Laughlin, M.D., board certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon, attended the 37th annual Baker Gordon Symposium on Cosmetic Surgery in Miami, Fla. in February. The symposium was co-sponsored by the Plastic Surgery Education Foundation, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and University of Miami School of Medicine. Andy Twisdale, ABR Charter 1 North Realty and Marketing has been appointed to the National Association of Realtors Resort Real Estate Committee by National President Catherine Whatley. The NAR is America’s largest trade association, representing more than 880,000 members involved the residential and commercial real estate industries. The staff at The Sanctuary, A European Day Spa, recently received advanced training in Guinot Paris’ Skin Care Systems. They also worked with the American Cancer Society and were trained in the “Look Good Feel Better” program in order to work with cancer patients
with cosmetic concerns. In addition to their advanced education,they received the SpaWish Gold Symbol of excellence. Gary Mullane of Mullane Associates, a tree consulting company in Hilton Head, was honored with the Award of Merit by the National Arborist Association (NAA) at their winter management conference in Puerto Rico. Dick Squires of Rowayton, Conn. and Palmetto Dunes was recently inducted into the American Platform Tennis Association’s Hall of Fame. This is the highest honor that can be earned in the game, presented to individuals who have achieved distinction as player and/or who have contributed in other ways to the growth, development and administration of the game. RE/MAX Island Realty associates were honored at the RE/MAX Carolina Awards Celebration held in Columbia.
