January 2003 - Home Discovery: Built to Suit
Island Builder Combines the Best of the Best

Not long after moving into their new home in The Golf Club at Indigo Run, Brenda Jeffcoat noticed a man she didn't recognize taking pictures of her house. She asked her husband Randy to find out why the stranger was taking pictures. It turned out that he was the previous owner of their wide lot. He was taking photos to show his wife, who convinced him to sell the lot because she thought there wasn't much they could do with it. "He wanted to show his wife what we ended up doing with it!" Brenda said. Even though Randy and Brenda Jeffcoat are not golfers, they chose the lot because of its expansive golf course view. They maximized the lot's potential by building an elegant, yet perfectly comfortable, 6,000-square-foot home, which can also serve as a virtual showroom for clients of their business, Randy Jeffcoat Builders, Inc.

To begin, the ceiling in the grand foyer is an impressive 22 feet high, which gives visitors time to absorb the neo-classical architectural elements - multiple stately columns, elaborate wood trim molding, and stone floors. The foyer has enough interesting spaces and niches to display jumbo urns and plants. The home's design includes rooms without too many walls, leaving mostly open space for good traffic flow and easy entertaining. From the foyer, stately columns draw a visitor's eye into the formal dining room. Opposite: The exterior of the home also does a fine job of showcasing the neo-classical design elements found throughout the home. home discovery "Randy chooses to build fine homes, and I think this home is a reflection of his love for what he does," explained Brenda, who manages the office of their business.

Randy and Brenda, originally from Columbia, South Carolina, have lived on Hilton Head and been in the custom home building business for 22 years, so they know whom to call upon for special added touches. But some of the credit of their design and decorating success has to go to Brenda's favorite design magazine, Florida Design. "Clip and save. This is the best way to get what you want," Brenda pointed out. Vivan Baltezar at The Studio at Creative Designs was able to customize the Jeffcoats' dining room chairs by matching a finish from Brenda's favorite dining buffet. Local artisans Kristine Zook and Karin Woods of K. Creations contributed their faux painting skills for the interior columns. Apex Supply helped Brenda find a hand-painted sink for the powder room. The lighting experts at Cameron & Barkley were able to locate chandeliers and other light fixtures because of Brenda's file of magazine clippings. Casa Italiana, the company that provided massive amounts of stone for flooring and granite for countertops, showers and fireplaces, invited the Jeffcoats to travel to their warehouse in Jacksonville, Florida when it came time to select the slabs of granite, which then became magnificent counter and island tops in a very spacious kitchen. The Jeffcoats selected a line of cabinetry from a French-Canadian manufacturer called Cuisines Laurier. Tom Lauderdale at Advanced Kitchen Designs worked diligently with Randy and Brenda to create a functional yet beautiful kitchen.

Interesting accents found abundantly in and through the kitchen reflect how these homebuilders and homeowners set themselves apart from many others. A cozy family living area, perfect for "together time," sits adjacent to the kitchen. A customized entertainment center is within view of the game room, which features an impressive coffered ceiling and is home to a chocolate-colored, six-legged Vitalie billiard table the Jeffcoats found in Brevard, North Carolina. The rustic stone-covered porch and deck flooring lead the way to a relaxing Aqua Blue outdoor pool with a builtin waterfall and fountain. Rick Nardone of Davis Landscaping helped the Jeffcoats choose just the right amount of plants and landscaping to create a picture perfect backyard, good enough for a color spread commonly found in many home design magazines.

Randy said he welcomes the challenge of creating a masterpiece, and that means he enjoys staying on top of all the details in every projec he does. As a result of his background in structural framing and years of experience in all areas of subcontracting, Randy is well qualified to suggest ideas that are both elegant and practical. For example, his beautiful home has the latest and greatest when it comes to audio-visual and lighting technologies. Lifestyle Technologies of Bluffton was instrumental in bringing comfort and ease to the Jeffcoats' home by customizing programmable lighting scenarios. From the master bedroom, the garage or an electronic remote, the lighting in the entire house can be controlled with the touch of a single button. "The Sillouette shades in our bedroom also go up and down with a clicker. It's one of those fun little indulgences we enjoy," said Brenda. When asked what she likes best about her home in Indigo Run, Brenda is quick to point out that she has an entire room dedicated for storing all her Christmas decorations. "I'm a bit of a Christmas fanatic," she admitted. Fortunately for the fanatic, the room is quite commodious; it is actually a sizeable suite! The Jeffcoats must have had a couple of goals in mind when they made their slogan "Custom Homes Comfortably." Aside from being a good business motto, it also became their lifestyle. ™
