MAYOR
CLARIFIES BEACH ACCESS INFORMATION
In my June 2003 article, "See Hilton Head Island First,"
I would like to clarify two references I made. First, the
Port Royal Beach Access Park is an extension of Barker Field
on Beach City Road. This park will have access to the beach
on the sound northwest of the "Spa on Port Royal Sound"
and will not impact Port Royal Plantation. Second, in reference
to Fish Haul Park, an amenity planned for this park will be
a marsh overlook platform, not a boardwalk, from the north
side of Fish Haul Creek.

THE RIGHT TO CHOOSE
Noting Congressman Bill Herbkerman's "Last Word"
in your June issue (regarding local shrimp): At restaurants,
a diner deciding to order a beef dinner would expect to pay
more for a filet mignon than a hamburger steak, knowing both
are beef. Wouldn't it be feasible for a restaurant to offer
South Carolina shrimp and, listed separately, imported shrimp,
with each priced as necessary?

ORCHESTRA GRATEFUL FOR SUPPORT
It has been another great year in the life of the orchestra.
Despite the sadness of the Savannah Symphony closing its doors
and orchestras around the country facing extreme losses, the
Hilton Head Orchestra has remained fiscally sound. This would
not be possible without the support of local businesses with
their dollars or in-kind services and the donations from individuals
who give and/or volunteer their time. On behalf of the orchestra
board, I thank you for your enthusiasm and commitment to be
a part of the orchestra family.
